  12. This is totally unfair to Delrina. Do you have any idea how many
  13. different versions of the USR Sportster 28.8 modems there are out
  14. there that are not compatible with each other? This apparently applies
  15. to the Telepath modems as well. USR keeps making changes to their
  16. firmware but not changing their model numbers/designations. Apparently
  17. the Delrina stuff works with USR modems that have firmware date from
  18. February 96 onward, work with firmware from sept 85 onward for the
  19. most part, and have trouble with prior versions of USR/Gateway
  20. firmware. The fact is that USR/Gateway failed to use an industry
  21. standard when creating the firmware for these modems as well (or the
  22. standard changed from their expectations as they rushed to get their
  23. fast modems on the market before the standard was finalized). The low
  24. volume on voice message playbacks is a flaw in the firmware on board
  25. which neither company seems willing to admit or repair at their cost.
  26. Delrina can not be blamed for wanting to stay clear of this entire
  27. mess. (I have no connection with Delrina).
